GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Tim Bryant (Peterborough, N.H.) scored three goals in the fourth quarter as the University of Southern Maine came back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Maine Maritime Academy, 12-10, in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game Thursday afternoon at Hodgdon Field.

The win was the second straight for the Huskies and improves their overall record to 7-5. The Mariners dropped their second straight to slip to 6-3 overall.

Trailing 10-8 entering the final quarter, the Huskies scored four times while holding the Mariners to just one shot (off the post) over the final 15 minutes. Bryant converted a pass from senior Preston Gilbert (Saco, Maine/Cheverus) to pull the Huskies within one. Less than a minute later, Gilbert tied the score on an individual effort.

Bryant snapped the tie with 7:22 to play off an assist from freshman Dan Thomas (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and he added an insurance goal while USM was man-up with 2:09 to go.

Maine Maritime came from behind to out score USM 3-1 in the second quarter to tie the game at halftime, 6-6. Senior Garrett Lake (Farmington, Maine) had two of the goals. MMA jumped
ahead in the third quarter on a man-down goal by senior Clay Tolman (Rockport, Maine) and a man-up goal from Lake.

The Mariners biggest lead came at 10-7 on a goal by sophomore Christopher Keiley (Holliston, Mass.). A goal by USM rookie Matt McFarlin (Randolph, Vt./Woodstock), assisted
by Gilbert, with two seconds left in the quarter got the host side back within two and set the stage for Bryant.
