Mariners pick up first NAC win of 2009 beating Green Mountain College 20-2

MMA's Chris Keiley scores six times in MMA victory

Castine, Maine -- Christopher Keiley ’11 (Holliston, MA) scored six goals and dished out four assists as the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners crushed the Green Mountain College Eagles 20-2 in a North Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse game played Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.

MMA (1-0) had a 9-0 lead after a period and a 13-2 lead at the half before scoring the last 7 goals to finish the contest. Andrew DiSalvo ’12 (Glastonbury, CT) got his career off to a great start by scoring 10 points on the day, including a school record 7 assists performance. Senior Garrett Lake (Farmington, ME) and sophomore Todd Murphy (Middlesex, VT) each scored three goals while Wade Mondoux (Berwick, ME) added a goal and 3 assists. Freshman goalie Daniel Redmond (Westbrook, ME) made 8 saves earning his first collegiate win.

For Green Mountain (0-1), Chris Wetzel (Highland Falls, NY) and Thomas Wheeler (Seattle, WA) each had a goal for the Eagles while Max Talsky (Hanover, NH) and Edgar Vigil (Marlborough, MA) each added an assist. Steve Braunius (Lake Pleasant, NY) took the loss making 14 saves on 50 shots.

The Mariners' (1-0) return to action Wednesday when they host Thomas College at 4:00 p.m. Next up for the Eagles will be a home game when they host Mitchell College tomorrow.
