Spartans down Mariners with 18-5 victory

Fort Ann, NY-Castleton scored 14 second half goals en route to an 18-5 NAC game over Maine Maritime. Korey Counos led the Spartans with two goals and three assists. The Spartans placed 12 total players in the scoring column and had eight players with multiple points in the contest. The Spartans led in total shots, 58-15, and groundballs, 50-24.

The Mariners got out to an early lead in the first period by scoring the first goal less than three minutes into the game as Nate Bolduc (pictured left) got the goal. Teammate Todd Murphy put the Mariners up 2-0 at the end of the first period.

Castleton got on the board thanks to Michael Martinez, his first of four goals on the day. Murphy scored his second of the day to put the Mariners up 3-1, but the Spartan offense would soon ignite. The Spartans scored three goals in a two minute frame to round out the half and take a 4-3 lead into the half.

The Spartans continued to find the back of the net in the 3rd period. Castleton scored seven more unanswered goals to take an 11-3 lead before Nate Bolduc scored his second of the game to make it 11-4 going into the final frame.

The Spartans did not let up the attack as they scored five consecutive goals before the Mariners would score to finish the scoring.

Craig MacDerment contributed to the Spartan victory with two goals and winning 18 of 24 faceoffs on the day. Michael Mammunes came into replace starter Chris Wynne in goal to earn the victory with seven saves.

Patrick Jones made 16 saves in the losing effort for the Mariners.
