2008 Mariner Lacrosse Season Preview
The 2008 season looks to be promising for the Mariners' Lacrosse team. With the arrival of Coach Conte's first recruiting class, there is good young talent filling out the Mariner roster. With new additions to the roster, and two new games added to the schedule, there is a lot of excitement in the locker room and on the practice field.
Offensively the Mariners look to build with the help of some key veterans in the lineup. Returning award winners Nate Bolduc (Farmington, ME) and Garrett Lake (Farmington, ME) will lead a young group in the offensive end of the field. Bolduc is a 2nd team All Conference selection from a year ago at the midfield position. Lake was one of the NAC's best attackers in 2007 and was a NAC 1st team All Conference selection.
Defensively, the Mariners graduated all-conference player Ricky Schrempf, but look to some young players to fill the gaps. With only two senior defenseman on the roster, the underclassmen need to step it up and adjust quickly to the fast paced tempo of college lacrosse. Juniors Pete Betti (Upper Saddle River, NJ) and Clay Tolman (Rockport, ME) are two of the better defenders in the NAC and should provide leadership for the younger players on defense. Along with senior goaltender Pat Jones (Kennebunk, ME) the defense should be up to the challenge of a tough schedule.
The Mariners open up their regular season schedule on March 15th at home against St. Joseph's College.
