Mariners picked to finish 5th in pre season coaches poll
Four-time defending champion Mount Ida College has been chosen as the preseason favorite of the North Atlantic Conference in a vote conducted by the league’s coaches. The Mustangs received seven first place votes and 63 total points. Mount Ida, which has yet to lose a conference game in four seasons, returns eight starters including three first team all-conference selections from a season ago, attackers Brett Conley and Leo Shidler as well as midfielder John Lightbown.
Castleton was picked second after finishing 6-1 in league play for the second consecutive season. The Spartans, who received one first place vote and 57 points overall, return seven starters anchored on defense by second team all-conference selection James VanDerKar and junior goalkeeper Mike Mamunes.
Maine Maritime, who returns five starters led by first team all-conference junior attacker Garrett Lake, also received one first place vote.
