Maine Maritime Finishes 12th in Husson College Golf Invitational
With a composite score of 697, the Maine Maritime Golf team finished 12th in the Husson College Golf Invitational held on Sunday and Monday October 7th and 8th at the Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, Maine. The tournament, played over a two day span, included teams from all over New England. Nathan Bears (86 & 84) had the lowest total score for MMA with a 170, Mark Bailey (90 & 83) combined for a 173, Michael Smith (88 & 86) had a 174, and Charles Bourlisse (92 & 88) had a 180 for the tournament.
Tufts College shot a 296 on day one and made it hold up to win the Husson Invitational by 3 stokes over second place Bowdoin College. Ryan Blossom (JR, Concord, NH) of Bowdoin took home the individual title with a -3 141.
Tufts fired a two day total of 605 led by Luke Heffernan (FY, Arlington, MA). Heffernan shot a -2 70 on day one finishing in 5th place over all +7 149. Teammate Michael O’Neil (SR, Berlin, NH) was solid at +9 151 to pace Tufts to the victory.
Bowdoin finished at 608 and had the top two individual finishers as Jeff Cutter (SO, Medfield, MA) fired a +1 145, four strokes off teammate Blossom. Babson College improved 30 strokes from day one with a low second round total of 293, moving up 5 spots finishing 5th overall. Travis Dewire (SR, Wellesley, MA) paced Babson College with the low individual second round of -2 70 finishing 5th overall at +7 149.
MMA is again in action on Saturday October 13 and Sunday October 14th, when they travel to Boothbay Harbor Golf Club for the NAC Championships.
