NEFC All-Divisions Announced / 9 Mariners Honored

Jim Bower Named Bogan Division Offensive Player of the Year

The 2009 Maine Maritime Academy Mariner Football team capped off their NEFC season by winning their first NEFC Title since 1994 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. One that saw them post an 8-1 regular season record and a 9-2 overall record, a second consecutive Bogan Division Title, and a thrilling 48-42 win over Curry in the NEFC Championship game. The Mariners also clinched their first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Coaches from the New England Football Conference recognized nine individual Mariner accomplishments. Leading the way was senior running back Jim Bower - pictured right - (South Paris, ME) who was named the NEFC Bogan Division Offensive Player of the Year and was a first team selection.

Joining Bower as a First Team Offensive selection was junior center Dan Weamer (Stamford, CT), offensive lineman Mike Secord (Windham, ME), and senior quarterback Tyler Angell (Leeds, ME). Selected to the Second Team Offense was junior offensive lineman Mike Durrell (Livermore, ME), and senior tight end Travis Shaw (Bradley, ME).

On the defensive side of the ball, senior linebacker Travis Fergola (Mexico, ME), who collected 85 tackles on the year, and junior linebacker Wade Mondoux (Berwick, ME) were named to the First Team Defense. Receiving Second Team Defensive honors was defensive back Mike Riley (Milton, VT).
