2007 Preview
Returning from back to back winning seasons (7-3 in 2005 and 6-3 in 2006), the Maine Maritime Mariners look to build on recent success and make a run for the always competitive Bogan Division Title. The 2006 season saw some thrilling victories both home and away, and 3 losses by a total of 12 points. The Mariners will look to find a way to turn the close losses into wins in 2007.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Mariners return eight starters, led by Captains Joe Blier, Nate Bolduc (All Division), and Chris Tracy (All Division ‘06’, Rookie of the Year ‘04’). Junior Steve Keroack will switch back to defensive end from the offensive line and 1st Team All Division defensive end Cody Andrews bolster a strong defensive front anchored at nose guard by Aaron Allaire. First year starters Travis Fergola, Robie Leighton and Mike Riley should improve and fill out a strong defensive unit looking to stay near the top of the New England Football Conference teams.
The offense will be led by Brandon Goodrich in his fourth season at the H.B. spot with senior John Farrin (3 years H.B.) and Sophomore Jim Bower (537 yds) filling out the backfield spots. After the graduation of All Division QB Brandon Hamilton, pre-season competition between Chris Kates and Tyler Angel will determine this years signal caller. John Logus (2 year starter) will anchor a young offensive line from the center spot. Junior Chris Mitchell with two years at the guard spot and Sophmores Travis Berube and Mike Vangelist will look to improve up front. Alex Coulombe at 6’4” with great hands looks to be a threat at the wide receiver spot. With more experience in the offensive line and HB’s spots in 2007, the Mariners look to get back to the top of the Conference in Rushing and Scoring.
The veterans along with many new faces will look to fill any holes early and get off to a fast start in 2007.
