Maine Maritime defeat Framingham State 40-24
Framingham, MA- The Framingham State College football team suffered a heart breaking 40-24 loss at home today on Homecoming and Family Weekend at Maple Street Field to the visiting Mariners of Maine Maritime.

The Mariners remain in contention for the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division title as they move to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the division, while the Rams remain win less at 0-7.

Maine Maritime wasted no time getting on the board in the first quarter as they scored on their first three possessions. After receiving the opening kickoff, the Mariners quarterback Brandon Hamilton found freshman wideout Alex Coulombe all alone for 67 yard touchdown reception.

On the Mariners ensuing possession, freshman fullback Jim Bower capped a 7 play 71 yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Mariners up 14-0 with just under 10 remaining in the first quarter. After a Ram fumble that gave the Mariners the ball on their own 49 yard line, Hamilton would scamper 51 yards on the next play to give the Mariners a commanding 21-0 lead after Brian Guillerault added the extra point.

The Rams began to find their offensive rhythm towards the end of the first quarter as they drove 66 yards in 8 plays to put their first points on the board on a 7 yard touch down pass from senior quarterback Bryce Guilbeault to freshman wide out Anthony Kewley. Maine would add another score in the second quarter on Bower’s second touchdown run of the day. On the Rams ensuing possession with time winding down in the first half, Guilbeault drove them down the field as he completed 5 of 7 passes including 3 for 38 yards to senior wide receiver Bill Meuse. However, the Rams were unable to reach the end zone as the Mariner defense held of the rush on third and goal and fourth and goal from the one yard line.

The Rams received the second half kickoff and methodically moved the ball down the field. Guilbeault capped a 12 play 64 yard drive with a 10 yard touchdown run as he tried to avoid the pressure from the Mariner defense. The touchdown cut the Mariners lead to 27-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Rams opened the fourth quarter with a 22 yard field goal from freshman kicker T.J. Kasuba that cut their deficit to 10. The Mariners would push extend their lead back to 17 with just over 6 minutes to play on an 18 yard touchdown run by Brandon Hamilton. The Rams would respond on their next drive with a 23 yard touchdown pass from Guilbeault to Meuse to cut the lead to 10 once again.

The Mariners would eat much of the remaining time with their next drive as they went 47 yards in 7 plays for their final score, an 11 yard touchdown run from Bower who finished the day with 97 yards on the ground and 3 touchdowns. Hamilton finished the day with 154 rush yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns.

Next up for the 5-2 Mariners is a home contest against Coast Guard on Saturday, October 28th at noon.
