Mariners up record to 5-2 with 35-7 win against Worcester State
The Mariners of Maine Maritime hosted the Lancers of Worcester State in a key NEFC Bogan Division matchup in Castine on Saturday, October 22. MMA used a strong running game (55-320) to post the win and up their season record to 5-2.
Don Thibodeau (NEFC Offensive Weekly Honor Roll) scored the first of his two touchdowns on the day 2:36 into the game when he ran in from 50 yards to get the Mariners on the board. BJ Dunlap's extra point kick was good to make the score 7-0. After a missed Worcester State field goal, the Mariner offense went back to work and capped off an 80 yard, 8 play drive with Brandon Goodrich rushing into the endzone from ten yards out with 5:40 remaining in the first half. Dunlap was again successful with the extra point kick. The score at half time was 14-0 in favor of the Mariners.
With 5:59 left in the 3rd quarter, Worcester State got on the board when they scored their only touchdown on a Steve Kasprzak run from 29 yards out. Tom Gabriel's extra point was good to make the score 14-7.
The Mariners responded right away though with a 77 yard, 10 play drive that resulted in a Don Thibodeau 1 yard touchdown run with 5 seconds left in the third quarter. Dunlap converted the extra point to restore the Mariner 14 point lead at 21-7.
Nate Bolduc prevented another Worcester State touchdown by stripping the ball from Izzy Ayala on the one yard line in the 4th quarter, and BJ Dunlap connected with Brandon Goodrich for a 11 yard pass with 7:52 left in the game. Dunlap again converted the extra point to make the score 28-7.
On the next Worcester possession Brandon Hamilton (NEFC Weekly Defensive Honor Roll) returned an interception 60 yards with 7:18 left in the game. Dunlap completed his five for five afternoon in extra points by once again converting to make the final score 35-7.

-Don Thibodeau had 218 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns.
-Brandon Goodrich added another 32 yards with a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown.
-BJ Dunlap was 3-6 passing with 84 yards and threw for one touchdown.
Defense:
-Chris Clayton led the defense with 12 total tackles.
-Nate Bolduc and Wayne Withers both had 11 tackles on the day for the Mariners.
-Brandon Hamilton had 6 tackles, 2 pass break-ups and 1 interception for a 60 yard touchdown return.
