Mariners defeat Nichols College 38-13 to up their record to 4-0

In front of a big Family Weekend crowd at Ritchie Field in Castine on Saturday, October 1, the Maine Maritime Mariners defeated the Nichols College Bisons by a score of 38-13.

MMA opened the game with a 9 play 64 yard drive that lasted 4:20. The drive was capped off by BJ Dunlap's 2 yard touchdown run. On defense it was Nate Bolduc (pictured right) who prevented a Nichols TD by intercepting a Joe Folco pass at the MMA 24 yard line and returned it 24 yards to the MMA 48 yard line.

Nichols tied the game 6-6 with 11:29 left in the 2nd quarter when Judley Sanon finished off a 12 play 80 yard drive with a 9 yard TD run.

After that though, it was the Mariners who took control of the game. Brandon Goodrich scored on a run from 19 yards out with 8:26 left in the first half to make the score 12-6, and with 1:40 left in the half Don Thibodeau opened the Mariner lead to 18-6 when he scored the first of his four touchdowns with a 2 yard rush.

Nichols closed the gap 11:39 into the third quarter to make the score 18-13 on a Joe Folco run, but the Mariners responded with an 8 yard touchdown by Don Thibodeau with 59 seconds left in the third.

It was Thibodeau who finished the scoring for the Mariners with a 47 yard TD run with 11:26 left in the game, and his final TD from 73 yards with 1:53 left in the game.

Time of possession was Maine Maritime 33:40, and Nichols College 26:20. Judley Sanon rushed for 116 yards on 26 carries for Nichols, and Maine Maritime's Don Thibodeau rushed for 311 yards on 39 carries. Brandon Goodrich also rushed for 80 MMA yards on 9 carries. Joe Folco's passing line was 10-25-2-85, and Mariner QB BJ Dunlap's line was 3-11-0-32.

The Mariners up their season record to 4-0, and the Bisons fall to 0-4. Next up for the Mariners is an away conference game against Bridgewater State College on October 8th at 12pm.

• Don Thibodeau (NEFC Weekly Offensive Honor Roll): 311 yards and 4 TD's
• Brandon Goodrich: 80 yards rushing on 9 attempts and 1 TD.
• BJ Dunlap: 61 yards rushing, 1 TD and 32 yards passing.

• Nate Bolduc (NEFC Defensive Honor Roll) had 8 total tackles (6 solo), one interception with a 24 yard return, and 4 pass break ups.
• Chris Metcalf lead the Mariners with 13 total tackles (3 solo)
• Chris Tracy had 10 total tackles (3 solo) 2 tackles for loss totaling 4 yards, 1 pass breakup and one sack for a 3 yard loss.
