Football defeat Mass Maritime to up their record to 3-0
Maine Maritime defeated the Mass Maritime Buccaneers by a score of 41-28 to win the Admiral's Trophy and make it back-to-back wins for the first time since 1989 and 1990.
It was Mass Maritime that got on the board first when Tyler Andrews caught a 40 yards pass from QB Mike Blomberg at the 13:19 mark of the first quarter. It didn't take the Maine Maritime Mariners long to respond though, when within two minutes BJ Dunlap (pictured right) had connected with Cody Schmidt on a 52 yard pass for six points. At the 3:38 mark in the first quarter MMA extended their lead when Dunlap wrapped up a 9 play, 42 yard drive by running into the end zone from 9 yards out.
Dunlap and the Mariners started the second quarter right where they left off, with Jon Farrin catching a 55 yard pass (his first collegiate touchdown) to give MMA a lead of 19-7. The Buccaneers wouldn't go away though, and at the 10:22 mark of the second quarter Mike Blomberg's 4 yard pass to Joe Bushy got them back within a touchdown at 19-14. After the Buccaneers had closed the gap, the Mariner Defensive held strong with 1:45 left in the first half by making three consecutive stops after Brandon Hamilton's touchdown saving hit at the one yard line. Tackles made on the one yard line to deny the Buccaneers were made by: 2nd down - Guillerault; 3rd down - Metcalf; and on 4th down- Tracy/Guillerault.

The second half saw the Buccaneers come out of the gate fast, a nd they took the lead 21-19 when Ross Jarvis ran the ball in from 17 yards. But the Mariners again took to the air to regain the lead when Dunlap connected with Cody Schmidt on a 14 yard touchdown pass. In a back and forth quarter, Joe Bushy scored his second touchdown of the day when he ran in from 7 yards to give the Mass Martime Buccaneers a 28-26 lead.
In the fourth quarter it was the Maine Maritime Mariners who scored 15 unanswered points to seal the victory. Cody Schmidt (pictured right) caught his third touchdown pass of the day on a 29 yards toss by Dunlap with ten minutes to go, and Dunlap wrapped the scoring up himself when he crossed the Buccaneer goal line with thirty seconds left. Brandon Hamilton foiled any other attempts at the end zone by Mass Maritime by intercepting a pass and returning it 12 yards with 17 seconds left in the game to secure the 41-28 victory.

Statistics:
BJ Dunlap was 6 of 10 passing and racked up 201 yards. He had 4 touchdown passes, rushed for 2 touchdowns, made 3 extra points, one 2-point conversion, and averaged 40.7 yards per punt. He rushed for a total of 42 yards. For his efforts Dunlap was named NEFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Don Thibodeau rushed for 94 yards
Cody Schmidt had 4 catches for 113 yards. 3 catches were touchdowns of 52, 14, 29.
Brandon Hamilton lead the defense with 8 tackles, 6 being solo efforts. He also had one interception for a 12 yard return.
David Dutkiewicz anchored the d-line with 6 tackles, 4 being for a loss totalling 7 yards.
Next up for the Mariners is a conference game against Nichols College on Ritchie Field in Castine on Saturday at 1:00pm
