Football defeat the Curry College Colonels to up their record to 2-0
Coming off an impressive 21-13 road win at Mt. Ida last weekend, the Mariners looked to continue their winning ways against the 1-1 Curry College Colonels from Milton, MA. In an exciting contest played almost entirely in the rain, Chris McKenney's Mariners outlasted Curry to gain a 28-21 win.

Play went back and forth in a first half that saw both teams struggle to come to grips with the weather conditions. With 9 seconds left in the second quarter, it was MMA's Anthony Gervasio (pictured right) who made a key interception to hold the Mariner lead at 21-14.

After a determined and persistent second half performance by MMA, it was Curry who tied the game with 9:40 left in the game. But the Mariner defense came up big when they stopped Curry on the MMA 32 yard line with 1:10 left in the game. The Mariners then marched 68 yards down the field in 1:07 to take the lead after Cody Schmidt's 25 yard catch set up Don Thibodeau's 1 yard game-winning touchdown.

BJ Dunlap was 4 of 8 passing totaling 109 yards with a long of 49 yards to Brandon Goodrich. Don Thibodeau rushed for 249 of the Mariners 325 yards of total rushing, including a 46 yard long run and 2 touchdowns. Brandon Goodrich added 42 yards rushing, 49 yards receiving and two touchdowns on the day.

Chris Tracy (pictured right) led the defense with 14 tackles on the day, 9 being solo tackles, 4 tackles for loss totalling 15 yards, and a sack for 5 yards. Other defensive contributors were Chris Metcalf with 14 tackles, 7 being solo; Nate Bolduc 12 tackels, 5 solo; Brian Guillerault 11 tackles, 3 solo; Joe Blier 11 tackles, 6 solo, and one tackle for loss of 4 yards. Freshman Chris Smith made his debut with an interception for a 7 yard return.

Brandon Benoit of Curry rushed for 138 yards, including a 78 yard touchdown, and Kevin Holleran completed 13 of his 25 passes for a total of 175 yards.

The 2-0 Mariners travel to face Massachusetts Maritime Academy on September 24.
