Mariners lose 33-24 to Bridgewater State College

The 4-0 Maine Maritime Academy Mariners traveled to Bridgewater State College to take on the Bears in an important Bogan Division match up on October 8th. Unfortunately the Mariners came out on the wrong side of a 24-33 score.

Bridgewater jumped out to an early 7-0 lead when Mark Hull caught a 26 yard pass from QB Adam Camobreco at the 12:24 mark in the first quarter. At the 3:15 mark Brenden Kavey’s 3 yard run extended the Bears’ lead to 14-0. Both extra-point kicks by Brian Gerrish were good.

Chris Metcalf turned the tide for the Mariners when he intercepted a Camobreco pass with 1:15 left in the first quarter. After a 9-play, 77 yard drive it was Jon Farrin who got MMA on the scoreboard with a 34 yard reception from QB BJ Dunlap. Don Thibodeau rushed to complete the 2 point conversion to make the score 14-8 in favor of Bridgewater.

The Mariners took the lead when Brandon Goodrich ran for a 22 yard touchdown, and Thibodeau again scored the 2 point conversion giving the Mariners a 16-14 lead. MMA wasn’t finished scoring yet though, when Brandon Hamilton’s interception and 12 yard return set up Don Thibodeau’s 18 yard touchdown with 11:56 left in the game. BJ Dunlap punched the two point conversion in to make the score 24-14. The Bears stormed back though , and two touchdown passes from Adam Camobreco, and a 1 yard rush from Brenden Kavey ensured that Bridgewater would be victorious. The final score was 33-24 in favor of Bridgewater.

Brandon Hamilton (NEFC Honor Roll) led MMA with 138 yards on 17 carries, with Don Thibodeau chipping in with 117 yards, one touchdown and two 2-point conversions. BJ Dunlap was 6-12 passing for 101 yards with one touchdown.

Defensively Hamilton had 8 tackles (7 solo), one interception and one pass break up. Joe Blier had 7 tackles, all solo efforts. Chris Metcalf had 6 solo tackles and one interception.
