Find out more information regarding the 2010 Mariner Classic Tournament
The 15th Annual Mariner Classic Golf Tournament sponsored by Tidewater was held at The Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach, Maine on Monday June 1, 2009.
This year's tournament featured 128 golfers and a beautiful sunny afternoon. Tournament Director Craig Dagan comments "We couldn't have asked for a nicer day weather wise and the course was in great condition. Every year we get more and more alumni to come out for this special event and 2009 was no exception. Tidewater (pictured left) was our title sponsor again this year, and MMA alum Bill Scott was instrumental in making that all happen. Many thanks go to Bill, Tidewater, and the rest of our sponsors. The Dunegrass is a great golf course with exceptional banquet facilities, and we are very excited about being associated with them for our event."
The group of Bill Rocha '71, Jack Caravello '71, Tim Plummer '71, and Phil Plummer (picture below) from L&R Midland had the best score of all of the alumni groups. The day featured a 50' putt for $10,000 on the 18th hole, vacation prizes, as well as a tremendous raffle items. Louie Koukos from the Competitive Energy group won the chance for $10,000 but unfortunately missed the putt
Proceeds from the tournament are used to help provide the student-athletes at Maine Maritime Academy with a quality NCAA division III experience. The generous support offered by all is very much appreciated. "It never ceases to amaze us how many friends of Mariner athletics we have return to this tournament every year. We are extremely grateful for all of the support provided, especially from the 23 sponsors for this years event. The Dunegras Golf Club is a fabulous host for our event, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year" states Dagan.
Maine Maritime Academy athletic director Jim Dyer echoed Dagan's sentiments when he commented to the gathering, "On behalf of our student-athletes, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the tournament. It is because of your generousity that we can maintain and enhance the experience that our student-athletes have at MMA."
